What is a Window Opening Control Device (WOCD) and is it available on Wincore windows?

A Window Opening Control Device (WOCD) is an option available for some Wincore window systems.  It is designed to restrict the opening of a sash to less than 4″ to lessen the risk of accidental falls.  A WOCD can be released to allow the sash to fully open for emergency escape and/or rescue.  Some IRC and IBC editions have minimum sill height requirements for certain window openings, with use of a WOCD as one exception.  Building codes vary by jurisdiction and is the responsibility of the contractor/installer to ensure if a WOCD is appropriate for any application.

WOCDs are effective only when properly installed and remain engaged except in cases of emergency.  Installers must follow Wincore’s installation instructions and ensure occupants are familiar with and follow Wincore’s important safety information.  The Wincore WOCDs have been tested for compliance with ASTM F 2090.

Series 400, 500, 5400, 7700, 8400 and 8800 – Double Hungs, Single Hungs, Double Sliders, End Vent Sliders and Casement Windows.

Field Installed WOCD
